CHIETA Bursary South Africa 2019 – 2020

The CHIETA Bursary Programme is offered by the Chemical Education and Training Authority, a statutory organization established in 1998 by way of the Skills Development Act of the same year. The organization’s mandate is to facilitate and promote skills development within the chemical manufacturing industry. It also makes sure skills needs are accurately identified and addressed accordingly by making use of various initiatives developed by the SETA and the chemical industry sector.

Chemical Industry Education and Training Authority (CHIETA) Bursary Programme 2019

The Chemical Industry Education and Training Authority developed this bursary programme to be able to extend financial help to South African students who are qualified to pursue full-time studies at a recognized South African university. The programme will provide bursary support to students pursuing any of the areas of studies specializing in the subsections listed below:

  • Petroleum
  • Glass
  • Base Chemicals
  • Fertilizers
  • Explosives
  • Pharmaceuticals
  • Fast Moving Consumer products
  • Surface coatings
  • Specialty chemicals

Students studying any of the areas of study listed below will receive preference:

  • Biochemistry
  • Analytical Chemistry
  • Biomedical Technology
  • Chemical Engineering
  • Polymer Technology
  • Mechanical Engineering
  • Operations Management
  • Environmental Science
  • Electrical Engineering
  • Industrial Engineering

The bursary will cover undergraduate tuition expenses as determined by the statement of account up to R76 000 while postgraduates will receive R80 000.

Requirements or Eligibility

The bursary programme is open to candidates who satisfy the basic qualifications listed below:

  • South African citizen, 15 to 35 years old
  • Currently a student at a recognized South African tertiary education institution

Application forms must be submitted along with supporting documents listed below:

  • Proof of income
  • Certified copy of ID
  • Certified copy of Grade 12 results (final)
  • Proof of enrollment or registration
