The Center for Scientific and Industrial Research, or CSIR, is looking for ideal candidates to apply for its Help Desk Support In-Service Training Programme for 2019.
Established in 1945 by the South African Parliament, the CSIR sees to it that the yearly grant given to the Department of Science and Technology by Parliament is utilized to fund knowledge generation, skills enhancement and scientific infrastructure. Other sources of funding comes from contract research for the private and public sectors (both local and overseas) as well as from royalties, dividends and licenses provided by commercial companies and intellectual property management created by the CSIR.
The Institute has shown substantial growth with its research output, added value to society and transformation of its staff all throughout its years of operation.
CSIR Help Desk Support In-Service Training Programme
The CSIR’s Help Desk Support In-Service Training Programme is a 1-year contract where the incumbent will be gaining practical work experience at the Institute’s e-Government projects under the Next Generation Enterprises and Institutions group. Successful applicants will be based initially in CSIR’s Pretoria facility for a period of four (4) months. The remainder of the training programme will carried out in Thaba Nchu, in the Free State.
The duties and responsibilities of the selected applicants will include:
- Troubleshoot network, hardware, software and access issues of various devices such as laptops and tablets and a variety of other devices.
- Create weekly reporting on network and equipment status
- Manage projects such as data collection and analysis as needed
The main objective of the Help Desk Support In-Service Training programme is to provide successful candidates the opportunity to acquire real-world working experience. Permanent employment is not guaranteed by the end of the 12-month training period.
Requirements or Eligibility
The ideal candidates must meet the following minimum requisites in order to qualify for the in-service training programme:
- A Grade 12 graduate
- A Bachelor’s or National Diploma in Information Systems/Technology or Computer Engineering/Science is an added advantage
- Understand how computers and tablets work in general
- With a strong interest in ICT
- Excellent problem solving skills
- Good customer service skills
- Must be a South African citizen
