Electrum: Academic Bursary 2020 – 2021

Electrum, a Cape Town-based digital solutions provider, is inviting deserving and suitable candidates seeking financial support to further their studies in the technical field, to submit an application and qualify for its Academic Bursary Programmes for the 2021 academic year. Check the minimum qualifications below and find out if your eligible to apply.

Electrum is a digital payment solutions provider that works with major retailers, financial institutions and MNOs to determine efficient methods of transacting. These companies utilize Electrum’s cloud-based transaction hubs to facilitate consumer transactions e.g. purchasing digital products and services, accepting alternative payments and initiating money transfers.

Electrum Academic Bursary 2021

In line with realizing its commitment to developing high potential talent, Electrum offers a number of bursary programmes to help deserving students further their education in the field of information technology. These bursary programmes are as follows:

  • AAA Electrum Academic Bursary
  • All About Awesome Women in Tech Bursary
  • Electrum Foundation

AAA Academic Bursary Programme

This bursary programme will cover the following study-related expenses

  • Full tuition fee coverage for the final year of qualification
  • Textbook expenses
  • A new laptop
  • Accommodation expenses

In addition, beneficiaries will get an opportunity for mentorship and an internship intake. Beneficiaries are also required to render a 1-year work-back service.

All About Awesome Women in Tech Bursary Programme

Electrum is encouraging more women to become part of the financial technology field. Those selected to receive bursary support through this programme will have access to:

  • Full tuition fee coverage for the final year of qualification
  • Textbook expense coverage
  • A new laptop
  • Accommodation expenses coverage
  • Career guidance via designated mentors
  • Opportunity to receive assistance in building a solid CV
  • Receive coaching on interview tips

Electrum Foundation Bursary Programme

Electrum established a bursary foundation to be able to help financially-challenged but promising IT students to realize their objective to become IT professionals particularly in the field of software development. Successful applicants will receive bursary support that covers full tuition fees and book expenses.

Who should apply?

Only applicants who meet the minimum requirements are eligible to apply for the internship. All three bursary programmes basically have the same minimum requirements unless stated otherwise.

  • Students in their second or final year towards a Computer Engineering, Computer Science or any related qualification at Stellenbosch University or University of Cape Town
  • Must have at least 65% in all Computer Science subjects
  • Maintained a 65% GPA with no failing marks
  • For All About Women in Tech Bursary applicants – limited only to female students, especially those from previously disadvantaged backgrounds
  • For Electrum Foundation Bursary applicants – third-year students are accepted, as well as those studying in  UWC, UNISA, or CPUT

  • Take part in a two-hour technical
