Globeleq South Africa Management Services (GSAMS) is a privately-owned company that manages, builds and develops energy projects in accordance with South Africa’s Renewable Energy Independent Power Producer
Globaleq is contracted to manage three power producing facilities in South Africa’s renewable energy industry. These renewable energy projects are Droogfentain Solar Power, De Aar Solar Power and Jeffreys Bay Wind Farm. This is made possible through South Africa working together with Escom and other developers, contributors, constructors, suppliers, lenders and local communities.
Globeleq Scholarship Fund 2019
Launched in 2014, the Globeleq Scholarship Fund aims to augment the demand for highly skilled engineers in the renewable energy market. The scholarship programme is offered nationwide through Higher Education Institutions where electrical or mechatronic engineering is available. These institutions are as follows:University of Johannesburg
- Walter Sisulu University
- Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University
- Cape Peninsula University of Technology
- Durban University of Technology
- Central University of Technology
- Mangosuthu University of Technology
- Vaal University of Technology
- Tshwane University of Technology
The scholarship funding will cover the following school-related expenses:
- Registration fees
- Course fees
- Meal and accommodation expenses
- Living expenses
- Books and learning materials expenditures
The scholarship programme requires a service obligation of 12 months. In addition, the scholarship amount is based on the needs of the student, thus it is not a fixed amount.
Career Options
At the end of the programme, scholars will go through another round of selection process to determine eligibility for the internship programme offered by the country as well. Permanent employment within is not guaranteed.
Requirements or Eligibility
The basic requirements of the programme are as follows:
- A South African citizen
- Pursuing a National Diploma or a Bachelor’s degree in technology
- Going on at least his/her 2nd year in 2019
- Interested in renewable technology
