Established in 1861, the Institute of Municipal Engineering in Southern Africa is an organization that aims to promote and represent the interests of municipal engineers and companies involved with the built environment and municipal engineering. The Institute also aims to cultivate excellence in the engineering profession and help communities and its municipalities.
The IMESA Bursary Programme 2020
The IMESA Bursary Programme began in 2000 with the purpose of providing cash assistance to students who are financially unable to continue with their studies. These are studies particularly in the field of civil engineering, The IMESA also seeks to recognize the achievements of the dependents of its members.
The bursary programme is awarded to deserving students who have already been admitted to an IMESA-prescribed tertiary education institution and successfully finished the mid-year exams. The successful applicants will then enjoy bursary coverage on the succeeding school year. Bursary coverage applies to tuition fees and book expenses and coursed to the beneficiary’s university.
Who should apply?
Applicants who meet the following minimum requisites may be considered for the bursary programme:
- Students currently pursuing a Civil Engineering qualification but are financially constrained to further their studies
- Other Engineering courses may be considered pending the approval of the IMESA Executive Council
- Must be studying at a tertiary education institution recognized by IMESA
- Open only to South African citizens

What is the selection process?
Bursary support is awarded following a full evaluation process and as decided by the IMESA Executive Council. Successful bursars will receive notification before the year ends

Applicants who meet the programme’s minimum requirements will need to download the application form. Separate application forms are available for members and non-members of IMESA.

Deadline for submission of applications is on 15 September 2019. Late or incomplete submissions will not be accepted.
