Palabora Mining Company, the country’s only refined copper producer, is calling on qualified graduates to submit their applications to qualify for its Internship Programmes for 2020.
Operating since 1956, Palabora Mining Company, or PMC, has produced more than 2.7 million tons of refined copper with its associated power plants and open-pit copper mine. The mining company is JSE-listed and supplies most of the country’s copper needs. PMC has a refined copper output of more than 60,000 tons a year.
As the largest refined copper producer in South Africa, PMC employs close to 2,200 individuals operating in the company’s expansive block cave copper mine as well as a smelter complex. Until just recently, PMC has established US$410M underground mine with a daily production output of 30,000 tons.
Palabora Mining Internship
PMC’s multi-discipline internship programme is suitable for applicants who already hold a relevant Bachelor’s degree with no actual work experience. Graduates of the following study fields are eligible to join the internship progrmmes:
- Metallurgical Engineering (Extractive)
- Mine Surveying
- Chemical Engineering
- Mine Surveying
- Mechanical Engineering
- Electrical Engineering
- Civil Engineering
- Non-Destructive Testing
- Total Quality Management/Quality Management
- Public Relations
- Safety Management/Occupational Health and Safety
Who should apply?
Applicants must be able to satisfy the following minimum requirements to be considered eligible to join this internship opportunity:
- Must hold a B Tech or Bachelor’s Degree related to the fields of study listed earlier
- A South African citizen with valid identification documents
- Has no working commitments
- Does not have an active criminal record
