SANZAF Bursary Programme 2020

The South African National Zakáh Fund, or SANZAF, is calling on qualified students to apply for its Bursary Programme for 2020.

As a social welfare and educational organization based on the Islamic religion, the South African National Zakáh Fund works to uplift the condition of financially deprived Muslim communities by implementing the effective collection and distribution of Zakáh and other Sadaqát.

SANZAF is proactively working in the education, welfare and development, food aid, emergency relief in pursuit of its primary goal of empowering the underprivileged members of society.

The SANZAF Bursary Programme 2020

Headquartered in Johannesburg, SANZAF is committed to improving the quality of life of its target group, which are communities that society in general have neglected or forgotten. One of its main endeavors is extending bursary support to such communities in the following areas:

  • Western Cape
  • Port Elizabeth
  • East London
  • Durban
  • Gauteng
  • Ladysmith
  • Pietermaritzbug
  • Kimberley

Important: Bursary programmes for East London, Port Elizabeth and Western Cape are already closed for this year and will open mid or late 2020. Only open applications are featured here.

Who should apply?

SANZAF is looking for potential bursars who meet the following requirements:

  • Students currently in matric
  • Students taking up tertiary education through the support of a family member or through self support in the last school year
  • Tertiary education students who were granted bursary support from SANZAF (bursary renewal)
  • Unemployed individuals because of lack of skill or invailability of work
  • Financial incapacity to acquire/sustain tertiary education
  • Experiencing debt problems beyond their control

What is the selection process?

  • The SANZAF Bursary Committee will go though the applications and shortlist potential candidates.
  • Schedule of interviews and venues will be sent via email by the respective regional SANZAF office
  • Candidates must be available on the date of the interview
  • Successful candidates will receive notification by way of a Confirmation of Pledge Letter

Note that selection criteria may vary depending on the location of the bursary provider.

How do I apply?

The application process may differ depending the area of residence of the applicant. Please follow the application guidelines accordingly.

For Durban applicants:

Qualified applicants will need to register an account on the Central Bursary Welfare Forum, the bursary administrator in Durban. Click here to get started.

For Gauteng applicants, click here and make sure to review the terms and conditions of the bursary.

Applicants from Kimberley will need to create an online accounta as well in order to apply. Click here access the its recruitment portal.

Ladysmith applicants are also required to apply here.

Pietermaritzburg applicants, click here to access the online application form.

Be sure to prepare the following documents before applying:

  • For students currently in matric
    • Copy of identity documents; foreign nationals will need to submit a copy of their study permit
    • Affidavit proving unemployment status of parents, spouse or guardian and/or proof of income or proof that any of the aforementioned are already deceased
    • Testimonial from Imaam or educational institution
    • Copy of 2nd term results
    • Letter of motivation
  • For tertiary institution students
    • Copy of identity documents; foreign nationals will need to submit a copy of their study permit
    • Affidavit proving unemployment status of parents, spouse or guardian and/or proof of income or proof that any of the aforementioned are already deceased (if applicable)
    • Testimonial from Imaam or educational institution
    • Copy of 2019 mid-year tertiary results
    • Letter of motivation
  • For current SANZAF bursars
    • Copy of 2019 mid-year results
    • Affidavit proving unemployment status of parents, spouse or guardian and/or proof of income or proof that any of the aforementioned are already deceased
