About SARB
The central bank of South Africa was founded in 1921 to correct the abnormal monetary and financial state of the nation resulting from World War I. It is the fourth central bank established beyond the borders of the UK and Europe. The SARB is privately-owned and the oldest central bank in Africa.
As the central bank of Africa, the SARB’s functions are:
- Create and implement monetary policy
- Issue coins and banknotes
- Supervise the nation’s banking system
- Ensure that the National Payment System (NPS) is functioning effectively
- Manage the country’s official gold as well as foreign exchange reserves
- Serve as banker to the South African government
- Manage the nation’s remaining exchange controls
- Act as lender of last resort in times of exceptional need
SARB WILP Learnernship 2022
The SARB WILP Learnership (in conjunction with the South African Banknote Company) is in line with the organization’s commitment to doing its part in resolving the country’s skills shortage in the fields of engineering and technical field. The WILP Learnership programme is an apprecticeship and internship opportunity that seeks to provide new graduates extensive exposure to these fields within both financial institutions in preparation for their trade test and national diploma.
Successful candidates will be detailed at SARB’s Pretoria head office, cash centers in Cape Town, Johannesburg and Durban, as well as SABN’s headquarters in Pretoria North. In addition, the position is eligible to receive a monthly stipend.
Who should apply?
Candidates who meet the programme’s minimum eligibility criteria are qualified to apply:
Artisans
- Further Education and Training Colleges learners from the following disciplines:
- Electronics/Electronics
- Plumbing
- HVAC
- Mechanical
- Carpentry
- Holds an N4 certificate and requires 36 months of on-the-job experience in pursuit of a national diploma
Technicians
- A University of Technology student with an S4 qualification and requires a 12-month hands-on experience to complete their studies in Mechanical or Electrical engineering
