SEIFSA is the Steel and Engineering Industries Federation of Southern Africa, a national federation for employer’s associations engaged in the steel and engineering industry. As the national representative of employee groups, SEIFSA actively supports these groups and campaigns for policies that seek the sustained growth of the business environment where its members thrive and operate. One such initiative is the SEIFSA Bursary Programme which aims to attract bright and fresh talents to find gainful work in the industry and ensure its success well into the future.
On the national level, SEIFSA has been working to positively influence legislation and policy making that concern the industry in relation to labour relations, trade and economic matters, and skills development. On the industry level, it mediates collective agreements in employment conditions and wages with trade unions. SEIFSA also represents employers on the boards of various industry institutions such as the Engineering Industries Pension Fund, Metal and Engineering Industries Bargaining, Metal Industries Provident Fund, Manufacturing and Engineering Industries and Related Services SETA, and more.
SEiFSA also offers a wide range of products and services that are of direct benefit to the associations and their member employers. These service and product offerings cover everything from assistance, consultancy and advice on dispute resolution, labour legislation, health and safety, and employment conditions to name a few. In addition, the Federation comes up with training courses, publications, conferences, seminars and skills development, among others.
SEIFSA Bursary Programme 2020
While the SEIFSA Bursary Programme is primarily awarded to employers and employees associated with the Federation, it is also given to deserving students outside of the steel and engineering industry. This is in line with SEIFSA’s goal of developing the availability and retention of talented and skilled workforce for the steel and engineering industries.
Bursaries are given to full-time students pursuing the following fields of study at a recognised tertiary educational institution:
- Civil Engineering
- Chemical Engineering
- Electronics Engineering
- Electrical Engineering
- Industrial Engineering
- Metallurgical Engineering
- Mechanical Engineering
The bursary covers all or part of tuition expenses only. Books, residence, food, transportation, and any other school-related expenses are covered by the programme.
One of the programme’s goals is to ensure a steady and diversified talent pool. Successful bursars may look forward to permanent employment in the various member companies within the steel and engineering sector.
