Sol Plaatje University is currently accepting applications for undergraduate and postgraduate courses in 2022. Check the eligibility requirements and how to apply:

  • Sol Plaatje University is accepting applications for undergraduate and postgraduate programs till 10 January 2022.
  • Each course will have a limited number of seats; hence, candidates are advised to apply at the earliest.
  • To be eligible for the program, candidates should follow the instructions carefully, fill the application form completely, and submit their application before the closing date.
  • Make sure that you have uploaded all the required documents before submitting your application, as applications without documents will not be processed.
  • There is no application fee for applying to any program at Sol Plaatje University.

How to complete applications for Sol Plaatje University in 2022?

Sol Plaatje University requests eligible applicants to submit their completed applications online. Follow the steps given below to apply for Sol Plaatje University (SPU):

  • The first step is choosing the program you want to apply for. You can check for available courses in Sol Plaatje University 2022 Undergraduate Prospectus.
  • The next step is to collect necessary documents that you will need to upload in PDF form.
  • If you are in Grade 12, you must upload a certified copy of final Grade 11 results and a certified copy of your ID proof.
  • If you have completed Matric, you will need a certified copy of your final Grade 12 results, a certified copy of your ID proof, and an affidavit declaring whether or not you have studied previously at another higher education institution
  • Candidates who have completed Matric and have already studied in another University or a college will need a certified copy of your final Grade 12 results, a certified copy of your ID proof, and an official academic transcript from the college or university.
  • Now that you have the required documents in PDF format for uploading, you can start with the online application.
  • Open University’s official website:https://www.spu.ac.za/index.php/how-to-apply/ and click on “START YOUR ONLINE APPLICATION.”
  • On the next screen, you need to click on Apply under the Prospective Students section. Fill in all the details mentioned on the first page and click on the Save button at the bottom.
  • In the next section, you will be provided with a reference number and will be asked to create a PIN. You can use this reference number and Pin for any future interaction with the website.
  • After you have created a Pin successfully, you will be redirected to another page where you can click on the application icon on the left side of your screen. Here, you need to fill in details including schools attended, school leaving subjects, enter previous qualifications, and upload supporting documents.
  • Before you click on the submit application button, make sure that you have uploaded your documents.

What are the admission requirements?

Each program has different admission requirements as follows:

Bachelor of Education – Intermediate Phase (Grade 4-6), Senior Phase (Grade 7 – 9), and FET Phase (Grade 10 – 12)

  • NSC pass with Bachelor’s Degree
  • English HL: NSC Level 4 or English as 1st additional Language: NSC Level 5
  • If Mathematics is an elective subject: NSC Level 4
  • If Biology/Life Sciences or Physical Science is elective: NSC Level 4
  • Minimum 30 points in APS

Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.)

  • NSC pass with Bachelor’s Degree
  • English HL: NSC Level 4 or English as 1st additional Language: NSC Level 5
  • Mathematics: NSC Level 4. Mathematical Literacy is not acceptable.
  • Life Sciences or Physical Science: NSC Level 4
  • Minimum 30 points in APS

Bachelor of Science Degree in Data Science

  • NSC pass with Bachelor’s Degree
  • English HL: NSC Level 4 or English as 1st Language: NSC Level 5
  • NSC Level 5 in Mathematics (Mathematical Literacy is not acceptable)
  • Minimum 30 points in APS

Diploma in Information and Communication Technology – Applications Development

  • NSC pass with diploma
  • English HL: NSC Level 4 or NSC Level 5 in English as the first additional language
  • NSC Level 3 in Mathematics: or Mathematical Literacy: NSC Level 5
  • Minimum 25 points in APS

Advanced Diploma in Information and Communication Technology: Applications Development (ICT)

  • 3-year diploma in ICT or equivalent at NQF level 6 with study in the same field
  • An average of not less than 60% in the 3rd year exit modules of NQF level 6
  • Recognition of Prior Learning policy may be applicable in an instance where the applicant doesn’t meet the minimum admission requirement for entry into the Advanced Diploma course

Bachelor of Commerce in Accounting – 3 years

  • NSC pass with Bachelor’s Degree
  • NSC Level 4 in English HL or NSC Level 5 in English as Additional Language
  • NSC Level 4 in Mathematics: or NSC Level 3 in Mathematics and NSC Level 3 in Accounting or NSC Level 5 in Mathematical Literacy and Accounting NSC Level 3
  • APS: Minimum 30 points

Bachelor of Commerce in Economics

  • NSC pass with Bachelor’s Degree
  • English 1st Additional Language: NSC Level 5 or English HL: NSC Level 4
  • NSC Level 3 in Mathematics or NSC Level 5 Mathematical Literacy
  • APS: Minimum 30 points

Diploma in Retail Business management

  • NSC pass with diploma
  • NSC Level 4 in English HL or NSC Level 5 in English 1st additional language
  • NSC Level 3 in Mathematics or NSC Level 5 in Mathematical Literacy
  • At least one of these with NSC Level 4: Business Studies, Economics, or Accounting
  • APS: Minimum 25 points

Advanced Diploma in Management

  • A relevant Diploma at NQF Level 6 and Bachelor’s degree or equivalent qualification as approved by SAQA
  • The candidate must have passed management-related subjects
  • Additionally, the student must have obtained not less than 60% in the required qualifications

Bachelor of Arts

  • NSC pass with Bachelor’s Degree
  • NSC Level 4 in English HL or NSC Level 5 in English 1st Additional Language
  • NSC Level 2 in Mathematics or Mathematical Literacy: NSC Level 3
  • APS: Minimum 30 points
  • Additional subject requirements for students who want to enroll for a major or modules in Geography, Mathematics, or Economics with at least NSC Level 4

Higher Certificate in Heritage Studies

  • NSC pass with Certificate
  • NSC Level 2 in Mathematics or NSC Level 3 in Mathematical Literacy
  • NSC Level 4 in English HL or NSC Level 5 in English 1st additional language
  • APS: at least 25 points

Higher Certificate in Court Interpreting

  • National Certificate Vocational (NCV) or NSC pass with Higher Certificate requirement
  • NSC Level 2 in Mathematics or NSC Level 3 in Mathematical Literacy
  • NSC Level 4 in English HL or NSC Level 5 in English 1st Additional Language
  • Students should have at least one African language to be eligible for enrolling in Higher Certificate In Court Interpreting. The candidate should have taken the language as a home language with NCS level 4 or 1st Additional Language with NCS level 5
  • APS of at least 25 points
