South African Medical Association Bursary Programme 2020

The South African Medical Association is calling on promising and deserving individuals to submit their application and qualify for its Bursary Programme for the 2020 academic year.

Established in May, 1998, the South African Medical Association, or SAMA, is a professional organization of medical practitioners from the private and public sector. The SAMA is a non-profit organization registered with the Companies Act and the Public Sector registered with the Labour Relations Act. As a voluntary membership association, the SAMA functions to serve the needs and best interests of its members regarding  healthcare-related matters.

South African Medical Association Bursary Programme

The South African Medical Association Bursary Programme aims to provide financial support to eligible South African students attending a recognized South African medical school. Twenty bursars are chosen annually with each beneficiary receiving up to R20 000 to supplement tuition fee expenses.

Who should apply?

The ideal candidate must be able to satisfy the following minimum qualifications to apply for bursary support:

  • Must be South African citizens pursuing an MB BCh or MB ChB in their 2nd to 5th year of qualification
  • Must be pursuing medical studies at a recognized South African university
  • With a good academic record
  • Although being a SAMA member will get first consideration, students with financial issues is an important consideration
  • Applicants from historically disadvantaged groups are highly encouraged to apply

How do I apply?

Eligible candidates who would like to push through with the application will need to download and complete the SAMA Bursary Programme application form.

Be sure to attach two (2) recent testimonials. In addition, applicants are to send a copy of previous exam results before the application ends.

Application Deadline?

The deadline for submission of applications is on 15 March 2020. Applicants who do not get any feedback by 1 May 2020 should consider their applications as unsuccessful.
