Founded in 1923, Ford Motor Company of Southern Africa is a leading manufacturer and distributor of automobiles and spare parts for Ford, Jaguar, Mazda, Volvo and Land Rover brands in the country. It is a subsidiary of Ford Motor Company based in Dearborn, Michigan.
Ford South Africa started building Model T cars in a quaint wool shed located in Port Elizabeth. By the early 80s, it operated an engine plant and an assembly plant in Struandale, along with the old Neave assembly plant. When the assembly plants were closed down, all production operations were moved to the Silverton Assembly Plant located in Pretoria.
Ford Graduate Trainee Programme
Ford Motor Company South Africa’s graduate trainee programme is the company’s contribution to the national government’s campaign for skills development in order to contribute to the country’s economic growth.
The graduate trainee programme is designed to provide practical workplace experience to the youth of South Africa. The programme runs for a period of 2 years and involves extensive training as well as development opportunities for tertiary education graduates in the following fields of study:
- Finance and Marketing
FMCSA has recently announced its accreditation by SAICA, South Africa’s leading professional accounting service, as a preferred training centre.
This is where students will go through a 3-year internship programme on their way to become a SAICA-accredited Chartered Accountant.
Trainees will acquire first-hand experience of financial functions in a global automotive company including the areas of taxation, accounting, month-end reporting, internal control, budgeting and forecasting.
While FMCSA does not guarantee permanent employment upon successful completion of the graduate trainee programme, the graduates can still apply if there are openings in the relevant departments.
Requirements or Eligibility
FMCSA’s recruitment team will review applications that meet the following minimum qualifications:
- Applicants must have finished their university degrees or National Diplomas
- Graduates of any of the courses listed below:
- Human Resources
- Electrical Engineering
- Industrial Engineering
- Information Technology
- Supply Chain Management
- Top performing students in their class
- Must have updated, full academic records available
- Copy of ID

Opening and Closing Dates
FMCSA invites students from various universities to apply for their graduate programme. Career fairs are conducted annually at universities as well where students can know about the graduate programme. There are no opening and/or closing dates have been specified by FMCSA.
