Transport Education Training Authority (TETA) Bursary 2020 – 2021

The Transport Education Training Authority is calling on qualified unemployed learners to submit an application for an opportunity to further their education through the organization’s Bursary Programme. Before submitting your application, be sure to go over the programme’s minimum eligibility requirements to see if you qualify.

The South African government’s Transportation Education Training Authority, or TETA, is responsible for providing ground-breaking skills development framework and quality assurance in a manner that is cost-effective to go beyond government/stakeholders’` SLAs and requirement.

Under the Department of Higher Education, TETA’s functions are as follows:

  • Develop a Sector Skills Plan for the transport industry
  • Implement the SSP by holding learnernships
  • Approve workplace skills programmes
  • Allocate levy grants
  • Keep track of ETD, or Education, Training and developmental programmes

Transport Education Training Authority Bursary Programmes

TETA is offering several bursary programmes to active students pursuing qualifications relavant to the transportation sector. Bursary coverage is available to undergraduate, postgraduate and TVET studies and includes the following:

  • (N4-N6) National Diploma or Bachelors degree in Electronic/Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering
  • Bachelors Degree in Aeronautical Engineering
  • National  Diploma, Advanced Diploma, BTech or Bachelors degree in Road Transport Management, Supply Chain Management (Warehouse Storage and Distribution), Transportation Management, or Transport Economics
  • National  Diploma, Advanced Diploma, BTech or Bachelors degree in Risk Management, Operations Management, or Health and Safety Management
  • National  Diploma, Advanced Diploma, BTech or Bachelors degree in Business Administrators, or Financial Management
  • National  Diploma, Advanced Diploma, BTech or Bachelors degree in Maritime or Nautical Studies
  • Bachelors degree in Maritime Law or LLB
  • BCom in Accounting
  • Commercial Diving (Class II to IV)
  • Masters degree in a Transport-related course
  • Instructor’s Rating, Commercial Pilot License, ATPL or ATPL subjects, Instrument Rating

Who should apply?

Candidates will need to meet these minimum requirements to be considered eligible to apply:

  • Current Grade 12 students or have completed matric and intending to pursue the qualifications mentioned above
  • Undergraduate students currently studying any of the above qualifications and in need of funding for the 2021 school year
  • Commercial drivers who have completed matric (Senior Certificate)
  • Students pursuing an Aviation qualification (with PPL)
  • Must be pursuing or intending to pursue studies at a registered TVET university of college, aviation school or driving school
  • A South African citizen not older than 35 years old

How do I apply?

Eligible applicant may apply either via the TETA website or email. Make sure to have certified copies of the following support documents when applying:

For Grade 12 applicants

  • Results from Grade 11
  • Grade 12 certificate (if applicable)
  • South African ID of applicant and parent or guardian
  • Death certificate of parent/s (if applicable)
  • Payslip of parents. or affidavit if unemployed
  • Letter of acceptance from tertiary education institution, or if unavailable, submit proof application
  • Quotation for tuition, book and accommodation expenses

For TVET (formerly FET) students

  • Senior certificate
  • South African ID of applicant and parent or guardian
  • Death certificate of parent/s (if applicable)
  • Payslip of parents. or affidavit if unemployed
  • Letter of acceptance from tertiary education institution, or if unavailable, submit proof application
  • Quotation for tuition, book and accommodation expenses

For undergraduate or postgraduate students

  • Highest qualification
  • Financial statement showing status of applicant’s account
  • South African ID of applicant and parent or guardian
  • Death certificate of parent/s (if applicable)
  • Payslip of parents. or affidavit if unemployed
  • Any proof of admission at a tertiary education institution, or if unavailable, submit proof application
  • Quotation for tuition, book and accommodation expenses

For Pilot Training students

  • Grade 12 results or Certificate of Matric
  • South African ID of applicant and parent or guardian
  • Death certificate of parent/s (if applicable)
  • Letter of acceptance/ proof of registration at an aviation school
  • Quotation for training expenses
  • Valid PPL (for Commercial Pilot License)
  • Valid CPL (for Instrument Rating)
  • Valid CPL with Instrument Rating (for Instructors Rating)
  • Valid CPL with Instrument and Instructors Rating (for CPL with ATPL subjects)

For Commercial Diving students

  • Grade 12 results or Certificate of Matric
  • Highest qualification
  • South African ID of applicant and parent or guardian
  • Death certificate of parent/s (if applicable)
  • Letter of acceptance from diving school
  • Quotation for training expenses, equipment and relevant training costs
