Headquartered in Carlton Centre, Johannesburg, Transnet SOC Ltd. is one of the largest, if not the largest rail, pipeline, and port company in South Africa. It was established in April 1, 1990 as a limited company with the privatization of government-owned South African Transport Services. This was done after eight decades of state and parliamentary control.

Transnet Engineering Bursary Programme 2021
In line with Transnet’s drive to develop human capital development, the company is offering B.Sc. Engineering or B. Engineering students the opportunity to join their comprehensive bursary programmes. This initiative is also in conjunction with Transnet’s efforts to address their skill requirements in accordance with their Market Demand Strategy.
Bursary support is awarded to students pursuing any of the engineering fields below:
- Industrial engineering
- Electrical engineering (Heavy Current)
- Electronic engineering
- Metallurgical engineering (Physical)
- Mechanical engineering
- Civil engineering
- Computer engineering
Transnet allows students to choose the South African university they want to attend.
The bursary programme will cover the following expenses:
- Tuition fees
- Book expenditures
- Meal and Boarding expenses
- Experiential training
Who should apply?
Only candidates who meet the following minimum requirements are eligible to apply:
- Must be a South African citizen
- Grade 12 with exemplary achievements
- Must have minimum five symbol in Math, English, and Physical Science
What is the selection process?
The Transnet Bursary Department will shortlist the applications based on the following:
- Academic performance (tertiary or secondary level education)
- Shortlisted applicants will receive an interview invitation that will be conducted in Johannesburg, Cape Town, Bloemfontein and Durban
- Final selection will be based on the interview results. academic results and medical fitness
