Western Cape Government-DTPW Masakh’iSizwe Bursary Programme 2020

The Department of Transport and Public Works and the Western Cape Government is calling on qualified parties to apply for its upcoming Bursary Programme for 2020.

It is the Department of Transport and Public Works primary responsibility to construct and maintain of roads, health and educational facilities and other buildings. It also works with the objective of creating more job opportunities and growth through a wide range of programmes. Moreover, the DTPW provides South African citizens increased access to efficient and safe transport.

WCG-DTPW Masakh’iSizwe Bursary Programme 2020

In 2006, the Western Cape Government working with the Department of Transport and Public Works founded the Masakh’iSizwe Bursary Programme. The bursary programme seeks to attract to and grow promising talent for the engineering and built environment fields that are instrumental to the sustained growth of the regional economy.

Bursary coverage will include the following:

  • Tuition fees
  • Boarding and meal expenses
  • Support programmes
  • All school-related books and materials

Bursary support is awarded to successful applicants pursuing a diploma or degree in the following disciplines:

  • Civil Engineering
  • Mechanical Engineering
  • Electrical Engineering
  • Architecture
  • Quantity Surveying
  • Construction Management
  • Transport Economists
  • Town and Regional Planning
  • Geomatics
  • Economists
  • Property Studies

Students must pursue their qualification at any of these universities:

  • Cape Peninsula University
  • University of Cape Town
  • Stellenbosch University

Bursars are to adhere to a work-back policy during and after the bursary coverage. After completing qualification, a year of community service for each bursary support is given, is required. While in the programme, students will need to participate in the following;

  • Workshops, meetings and events
  • Outreach programmes
  • Academic experiential training

Who should apply?

  • Students must intend to pursue or intending to pursue any of the prescribed fields of study at a recognized university
  • Priority is given, but not limited to applicants who are financially disadvantaged, female learners, from rural communities and people with disabilities

Deadline for submission of applications is on 30 September 2019. Late or incomplete submissions will not be accepted.
